Olivia M. Martinez, PhD

Professor of Surgery

Olivia M. Martinez, PhDOlivia was born and raised in East Los Angeles and was the first person in her family to graduate from college. She did her graduate work in Immunology at UC Berkeley followed by post-doctoral fellowships at Berkeley and UCSF. She has been on the faculty at Stanford since 1995 and has developed a leading research program in transplant immunology and the host-pathogen interactions of Epstein Barr virus.

As a research mentor, Olivia strives to support trainees to develop and hone a broad range of critical skills including scientific and technical expertise, teaching, problem solving, and effective communication.

As a SoLID faculty mentor, Olivia hopes to provide students with a safe place to discuss not only scientific topics of interest, but also challenging issues we often confront including academic culture, diversity, access to professional development opportunities, mentorship, and work-life balance.
